STHLM Design District - Stockholm

The STHLM Design District is comprised of over thirty companies involved in interior design, textiles and furniture. It is a great place to visit to get a feel for the prevailing trends and latest styles and products being used in Swedish interior design. Unfortunately, my time in Stockholm coincided with the two weeks when many Swedes go on summer vacations, so most of the building’s tenants were closed while I was there.

Luckily, there was someone in one of the studios, R40, who happened to be at work that day, and he allowed me to come in and take some pictures. R40 caters to both commercial and residential clients, however, their showroom suggests that they more heavily target commercial spaces, particularly offices.

This type of ‘bladed-edge’ pillow furniture is something that I saw consistently during my trip. It seems to be a growing style in parts of Europe/Scandinavia.

It seems that no object goes overlooked. Even if its use is purely practical, it must not disrupt the design of the space.

The form and color of this chair strike me as a contemporary example of a long established design language that is decidedly Swedish.

As I continued to wander through the upper levels, I came across Red Bull's Swedish headquarters. They invited me to come in and look around.

And their reception area...

STHLM Design District is defiantly worth checking out if you are an interior designer visiting Stockholm. I was surprised to see how important interior design is in Sweden. They certainly have their own distinctive style. I would encourage anyone who happens to be in Stockholm and is interested in interior design to go see it.
